WVU’s Football History Against Kansas State

After suffering their third loss of the season and first in conference play, West Virginia will have an opportunity to bounce back this week against No. 17 Kansas State.

The Wildcats are 5-1 on the season (2-1 in the Big 12) and are coming off a 31-28 win against Colorado, in which they held on in the late stages. With the upcoming matchups let’s look at the history between these two programs.

West Virginia and Kansas State’s first matchup was in 1930 in Morgantown and WVU won 23-7. They would play in Morgantown again the next year, but K-State was the victor in a 19-0.

They wouldn’t face off again until 2012 when West Virginia joined the Big 12. Kansas State would go on to beat the Mountaineers four times from 2012-2015, welcoming them to the Big 12, making their total win streak five straight.

WVU flipped the script in 2016 and went on to win five straight against the Wildcats until 2020. In the last two times they faced off, in 2021 and 2022, K-State took both matchups, making the series a 6-7 K-State advantage.

West Virginia is 5-5 in their last 10 matchups with Kansas State and 4-3 at home all-time.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. EST from Milan Puskar Stadium and will be televised on FOX.
