6-foot-6 lineman Doug Nester earned significant preseason playing time at right tackle on Saturday, but just one day before the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline, Nester was one of 14 cut from the Minnesota Vikings.
Nester went undrafted this year after completing his third and final season at West Virginia, where he shared an offensive line with Pittsburgh Steelers starting center Zach Frazier. Nester played at both right guard and right tackle in five collegiate seasons with Virginia Tech and the Mountaineers.
Minnesota signed Nester to a contract with $85,000 guaranteed on the same day as the NFL Draft’s conclusion. Nester fought through training camp and played snaps in each game of Minnesota’s 3-0 preseason slate.
Now an unrestricted free agent, Nester is eligible to sign with any team leading up to the start of the NFL’s first game of the season on Sept. 5. There is no reported interest In Nester from any team as of now.
