Growing up in the city of Morgantown, WVU WR Preston Fox could not escape the gold and blue. Playing high school football in the teeth of Mountaineer nation, it can be assumed that repping the flying WV on your helmet one day is a massive dream. For Fox, it has become a reality.
The path would not be easy for the 5-foot-10 receiver who many thought was too small to play at the D1 level. However, nothing stopped Fox from shooting for the stars. Starting as a walk-on at WVU, Fox never quit on his dream and now has a chance to be WR1 this upcoming season.
Last year Fox stepped up as one of the stiarting receivers and also was a return specialist on special teams. He finished the season with 26 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns. Adding to those numbers were also 172 kick return yard and 145 punt return yards. Fox ranked 28 nationally in punt returns, averaging 8.1 per return.
During this spring leading up to this upcoming season, Fox was one of the Iron Mountaineer receipiants with Wyatt Milum, Sean Martin, Garrett Greene and Austin Brinkman. The award goes to players who perform exceptionally well in the team’s offseason strength and conditioning program.
The hometown kid found his footing last season on the team and now has an opportunity in 2024 to really make some noise in the stadium he grew up right down the road from.
