West Virginia University and Head Coach Steve Sabins gained a commitment yesterday from Florida prospect JT Huether via social media.
At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Huether primarily played in the infield during high school manning the corners of 1st and 3rd base. He also has experience in the outfield and as a right-handed pitcher. He’s been given an 8 grade by Perfect Game, which projects him as a “potential draft pick and/or excellent college prospect”.
Huether’s pitching development is noteworthy as he’s improved his fastball’s velocity by 22 miles per hour since 2019, according to Perfect Game. His fastball tops out at 87 miles per hour, with that velocity ranking as the 95th percentile of his class. His pitching arsenal also includes two breaking balls; a mid-70s slider, and a mid-70s curveball.
The Fort Myers native visited West Virginia University on June 14th before announcing his decision.
