JJ Wetherholt has been named as BaseballAmerica’s new projected number one overall pick in the upcoming MLB draft.
Going into the 2024 season, many mock drafts had Wetherholt projected to go first overall. However, after missing some time this season due to a hamstring injury and a slight drop in numbers, Wetherholt has slipped down some boards.
The former Big 12 player of the year finished the season with a .331 average and eight home runs in just 36 games. Last season Wetherholt finished with a .449 and 16 home runs.
The MLB draft is set to take place from July 14-16. Round one will begin on July 14 at 1:00 p.m. ET in Arlington, Texas and can be viewed on the MLB Network.
