Where West Virginia baseball lands in latest postseason projections — Apr. 25

As the month of April comes to a close this weekend, the NCAA Tournament picture is starting to take shape.

With that, comes a hope for consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for West Virginia baseball and in the latest projections, the Mountaineers are firmly in the field.

D1Baseball and Baseball America both have WVU as a No. 2 seed.

D1Baseball has the Mountaineers heading to a familiar place in Lexington, Kentucky. The Mountaineers are projected to be the No. 2 seed in the Lexington Regional. This would be the same seed and regional as they played in last year with projected No. 5 overall seed Kentucky. They would face California in the first game.

Baseball America also has the Mountaineers as a No. 2 seed, but they have them heading to face No. 14 overall seed Duke in the Durham Regional. WVU would face UConn in the first round.

WVU has a chance to rebound in the final month of the season and get back into the hosting conversation. Last week’s D1Baseball projections had the Mountaineers as the No. 16 overall seed and a regional host.

WVU would then get swept on the road by Texas Tech. The Mountaineers host Baylor this weekend as they are firmly in the mix near the top of the Big 12.

WVU ranked 34th in the RPI rankings, down seven spots over the past week. Seven Big 12 teams land in the top-37 of the RPI rankings.
