West Virginia baseball seemed like it would be in store for a long weekend on Friday night.
The Mountaineers were no-hit and blown out 13-0 by Oklahoma in the first game of a three-game series. Then on Saturday, WVU did something they had not done all year — sweep a doubleheader.
The bats came alive for the Mountaineers and with that came a series win over the first place Sooners.
The series win handed Oklahoma their first two Big 12 losses of the season and put the Mountaineers in a tie for third place in the conference standings. WVU improved to 4-2 in league play and are one of four teams with a winning record. Kansas State sits in first place at 5-1, behind them is Oklahoma at 7-2, and then it’s the Mountaineers along with Texas at 4-2.
Following them it’s a cluster with Oklahoma State and Cincinnati at 3-3, before there are five teams that are 4-5.
WVU is set to face Oklahoma State this weekend at Kendrick Family Ballpark. WVU took the series from the Cowboys last season. After that, WVU travels to Kansas who is 4-5 in league play, before they then host UCF.
WVU finished last season 15-9 in Big 12 play after starting 3-3 in league play.
