West Virginia Rifle finishes as national runners-up, sweeps individual national titles

West Virginia wrapped up the 2023-24 rifle season as national runners-up, with both individual national titles in smallbore and air rifle at the 2024 NCAA Rifle Championships being held at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

Day two of the two-day event featured the air rifle portion of the championships, where West Virginia finished with an aggregate score of 2376. That placed them tied for fourth among the eight teams, with TCU finishing first in that category with an aggregate score of 2385.

TCU finished as the 2024 national champion with an overall aggregate score of 4732. West Virginia was just three points behind at 4729.

West Virginia’s Gavin Barnick and Mary Tucker qualified for the individual air rifle competition with aggregate scores of 598 and 597 respectively. Both finished in the top three with Tucker finishing in third place with a score of 228.5, and Barnick finished as the individual national champion in air rifle with a score of 251.7.

Tucker wrapped up her college career as the top individual performer at the championships with an overall aggregate score of 1193. Barnick also made an appearance in the top 10 in that category with an aggregate score of 1183.

West Virginia’s other three competitors in the Rifle championships, Griffin Lake, Molly McGhin, and Matt Sanchez, finished with aggregate scores of 1177, 1176, and 1173 respectively.
