West Virginia women’s basketball is going to have to hit the road in the NCAA Tournament, but they still have the chance to improve their seed.
As of Friday morning, the Mountaineers are currently a seven seed in the Baton Rouge Region, according to ESPN. They are slotted to play No. 10 Michigan, and if WVU wins, they would most likely play No. 2 seeded LSU in a true road game.
West Virginia begins Big 12 Tournament play on Friday night, and assuming they win, they will have high level matchups the rest of the way.
If the Mountaineers beat Cincinnati on Friday night, they play Kansas State on Saturday. K-State is a five-seed in the latest projections. If they win that and everything else holds, they then would face Texas, who is a two-seed.
Overall, WVU will be in the NCAA Tournament, but how they fare in Kansas City will determine their chances of getting a higher seed and making it an easier path forward.
