West Virginia head coach Mark Kellogg was not pleased after his team lost their third straight game and arguably played their worst game of the season on Tuesday night.
The Mountaineers came in with a must-win opportunity in front of them, needing two wins over their final two games to secure a top-four seed in the Big 12 Tournament. On Tuesday though, it was Oklahoma State who seemed more desperate, controlling the game and leading for over 35 minutes in their 68-61 win over the Mountaineers.
“Credit Oklahoma State, beat us in every way possible. From the jump, every quarter, big time disappointed in our performance, but credit them, they earned it, they deserved it,” Kellogg said.
The Mountaineers were never really in it after the midway through the second quarter. Oklahoma State’s lead hovered around the nine-point mark, but West Virginia could never fully get back into the game.
“Played harder, shot better, played to their game plan better than we did. Out-coached us, everything. Outplayed us, out-coached us, did everything to deserve that win. That’s as bad was we’ve played all year so that’s disappointing, but credit them for wha they did to us. We’ll regroup and see if we can’t finish it off Saturday.”
