West Virginia in three-way tie for second place in Big 12 standings ahead of pivotal three-game stretch

West Virginia women’s basketball has put themselves in position to compete for the Big 12 regular season crown.

Currently, Oklahoma is in first place in the Big 12 at 12-1, and then there is a three-way tie for second with Texas, West Virginia, and Kansas State, all at 10-3 in league play.

The Mountaineers get their lone shot at Oklahoma this weekend, as they host the Sooners at the WVU Coliseum on Saturday. After that the road doesn’t get any easier for the Mountaineers as they head to Kansas State and then return home to face a Baylor team they just lost to last weekend.

The Mountaineers are putting themselves in a spot where they can compete for the league crown. If they can beat Kansas State, they would hold the tiebreaker over them. Same with Oklahoma. However, Texas holds the tiebreaker over the Mountaineers.

Besides West Virginia, Oklahoma’s hardest game figures to be when they host Texas on Feb. 28. For Kansas State, their game against WVU on Feb. 21, seems to be the hardest one remaining.

Either way, if WVU can win two of their next three, with one of them being against Oklahoma, they put themselves in a good spot to finish near the top of the Big 12 standings.
