Former Mountaineer Miles ‘Deuce’ McBride is playing well in a new role with the New York Knicks.
On Dec. 30, 2023, the New York Knicks sent guards Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett as well as a 2024 second-round pick to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for forwards OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and guard Malachi Flynn, since then former West Virginia and current New York Knicks guard Miles “Deuce” McBride has seen more playing time, making the most of it.
In 18 games played before the trade, McBride was averaging just 1.9 points and 4.5 minutes per game, in 20 games since the trade, McBride has averaged 17.4 minutes, 8.75 points and 1.4 assists per game.
Although, those numbers may be inflated from when Deuce started two games in place of an injured Jalen Brunson, playing 38 minutes against the Memphis Grizzlies on Jan. 13 scoring 19 points and playing 36 minutes against the Orlando Magic on Jan. 15, scoring a career-high 20 points.
Since Dec. 30, the Knicks are 16-4 and currently tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for third place in the Eastern Conference.
In his last three games alone, McBride has averaged 26.7 mpg, 12.7 ppg, two rebounds per game, 1.3 apg and 1.3 steals per game.
On the season Deuce is 44.4% from the field and 44% from three.
With New York currently on a roll, McBride has emerged as a key piece to their success, ready for whenever he’s called upon.
“Every time he’s gotten an opportunity, he’s played well,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said about McBride on Jan. 15.
“Some people are surprised with his shooting, we’re not, because we track all our shots and he’s been one of the most accurate shooters we have.”
Deuce and the Knicks will host the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. EST and the game being televised on TNT.
