Former Mountaineer Miles McBride broke his career scoring record on Monday, just two days after setting it.
McBride, Jalen Brunson’s injury replacement, made his first start of the season on Saturday, scoring 19 points in 38 minutes in Memphis. Back home at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks trusted McBride again, and he did not disappoint.
In 36 minutes, the point guard shot eight-for-17 from the field against Orlando and let it fly from beyond the arc, making four of his 10 attempts. He was one of four Knicks players to end with a positive +/- in the loss at +3. McBride added on two assists, two steals, a block, and two rebounds with just one turnover.
New York fell to Orlando 98-94, but McBride’s value is proven in the Knicks’ current situation. McBride averages just over eight minutes per game this season, but with his newfound fit in New York, he may earn more opportunities when Brunson returns to the lineup.
Brunson’s status for Wednesday night’s game against Houston is unknown, but McBride should be ready to make his third straight start if his number is called.
