West Virginia men’s basketball will continue to be without their starting big man Jesse Edwards as he continues to recover from wrist surgery.
Edwards suffered a fractured right wrist in WVU’s loss to UMass on Dec. 16. Edwards would then have surgery on Dec. 20, according to interim head coach Josh Eilert and just over a week later, Eilert said everything is on track as far as his recovery goes.
“I think whatever wrap or cast he’s got on his wrist I think comes off after two weeks,” Eilert said. “So, we’re a week into that and I haven’t heard anything in anyway that timetable has been compromised by any means. I think we’re still on that four-week timetable.”
Looking ahead, the timetable for his return being four weeks means he would be slotted to return around the 17th of January. Obviously that could change, but that means he would be able to return around WVU’s game against No. 12 Oklahoma on Jan. 17, or when they host No. 2 Kansas on Jan. 20.
Edwards has missed two games and WVU is 1-1 in those games. Edwards will most likely miss at least four more games against Ohio State, No. 3 Houston, Kansas State, and No. 21 Texas.
