West Virginia women’s basketball was purely dominant on Sunday, beating Delaware State, 107-43.
The Mountaineers reached the 100-point mark for the first time since 2017, and their most points in a game since 2016, led by six Mountaineers reaching double-digits, including JJ Quinerly who scored 25 points in the win.
West Virginia took control of the game from the start, as on the first possession, the Mountaineers forced a steal turning into a layup. Delaware State responded with a free throw and layup, before WVU went on a 23-0 run, from the 8:06 mark to the 3:42 mark of the first quarter.
Quinerly would be the heartbeat of the run, scoring 13 points, and adding four assists and four steals in the opening 10 minutes. The Mountaineers led 37-7 at the end of the first quarter, as they shot 61 percent in the first quarter, and had 20 points off turnovers.
The same trends continued for the remainder o the game, as the Mountaineers would just pull away.
Delaware State would be outscored by a combined 33 points in the second and third quarters, as the lead would just continue to increase for West Virginia.
West Virginia led 55-13 at halftime, turning 18 turnovers into 26 points.
The second half was more of the same as WVU was no match for the Hornets.
In total, WVU shot 60 percent from the field, making seven three-pointers, forcing 25 turnovers leading to 37 points. Delaware State shot 30 percent from the field, went 2 for 14 from three, and had 11 points off 13 WVU turnovers.
The Mountaineers improve to 9-0 on the season and will have a week off before they play again on Dec. 18, against Wright State.
