West Virginia Women’s Basketball won the second of their three games at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico on Friday morning against Charlotte 84-56.
West Virginia began the scoring with a layup from guard JJ Quinerly and from there, the two team were in a back-and-forth affair that saw Charlotte leading 20-19 after one quarter.
The Mountaineers cranked things up from there, outscoring the 49ers 24-9 in the second quarter to lead 43-29 at the half.
West Virginia continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Charlotte 26-11 to extend the lead to 69-40 after three quarters.
Charlotte scored one more point than West Virginia in the fourth quarter, 16-15, but were eventually blown out by a final score of 84-56.
West Virginia was led in scoring by guard Jordan Harrison with 18 points, and guard Lauren Fields was right behind her with 17 points. Every player to see playing time in this game scored at least one point.
Guard Kyah Watson led the Mountaineers in rebounds with six as they outrebounded the 49ers 34-27.
Charlotte was led in scoring by forward Tracey Heuston with 12 points and also led the team in rebounds with five. Guard Aylesha Wade was the only other 49er to be in double digits in scoring with 11 points.
West Virginia shot 46.4 percent of their field goal attempts while Charlotte shot 35.9 percent of their field goal attempts.
West Virginia Women’s Basketball now moves to 5-0 on the season, the first time they have done this since the 2017-18 season. They will be back in action tomorrow in the third and final game of the San Juan Shootout against Southern Illinois at 10 a.m. with the game being televised on FloSports.
