On Saturday, West Virginia has their second and final scrimmage of fall camp. This follows what head coach Neal Brown called the toughest week of camp, and this should give clearly defined answers following the scrimmage.
“This is the toughest week as far as physicality, mental toughness, all those type of things,” Brown said on Monday. “This will be the toughest week we have. It’s really about finding out where we’re at.”
Finding out where WVU is at is just what the Mountaineers need to do. Between position battles,
“I’ve definitely seen some separation come along with some positions on the team. Some people are starting to surge and some people are starting to get exposed,” running back Justin Johnson said on Friday.
That separation includes battles at the quarterback position, linebacker position, and finding depth up and down the roster.
WVU is two weeks away from their week one game at Penn State, and this week was about getting WVU ready for the season, but the next two will be focused on their week one opponent.
“We’re really not talking to out players about Penn State, we’re not doing any Penn State prep. We’re trying to get our guys ready for the season this week,” Brown said. “There’s a different cycle you go into next Monday and Tuesday.”
