West Virginia University President E. Gordon Gee gave a simple response when asked if he could see former head men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins returning to West Virginia.
“No,” Gee said.
This comes a month after Huggins submitted his resignation for driving under the influence in Pittsburgh. Huggins recently said he didn’t resign from his position and demanded to be reinstated.
“I am a great admirer of Coach (Huggins) in so many different ways, he’s done many good things for our state and for our university, so that’s the reason I’m so immensely disappointed in him,” Gee said to Hoppy Kercheval on Talkline. “For the fact he was given a second chance and just did not perform at the level that he should.”
Gee added he is fully behind interim head coach Josh Eilert and that the program has moved on from Huggins.
“We’re now focused on Coach Eilert. In other words, we have moved on I hope that Coach Huggins will move on with his life too and take good care of himself and his family,” Gee said.
West Virginia is still facing roster uncertainty with five guys having hit the portal since Huggins’ departure.
