As of Saturday, the Big 12 expanded by officially adding four new members.
BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF, all were officially welcomed to the conference, putting the Big 12 at 14 members for the next year until Oklahoma and Texas leave for the Big 12.
“Big day for the Big 12, our conference, our fans,” Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark said. “Welcome UCF, Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, we are so thrilled to have you in the conference. We waited a long time for this moment.”
UCF and Cincinnati give West Virginia two more eastern teams in the conference, while the addition of BYU pushes the Big 12 into a third time zone. Adding BYU also now moves the Big 12 footprint west, hoping to gain more notoriety.
Houston will make it five schools in the Big 12 from the state of Texas for the 2023-2024 year.
