A few days ago, Kedrian Johnson joined the Inside TBT podcast to talk about his time with the Mountaineers and to discuss his upcoming time with Best Virginia.
Johnson mentioned that during the season he and some of the other seniors had talked about playing for Best Virginia this summer, but Kedrian said his decision was made following the loss to Maryland in March Madness.
“Me and a couple of the seniors, we were already considering playing,” said Johnsons. “But after we lost the game in March, I just felt like playing in front of our West Virginia fans again and I know we start off in West Virginia so that’s something I wanted to do again.”
When asked about his relationship with John Flowers and Kevin Jones, Johnson referred to them as “big brothers,” talking about how all three years Johnson was there the team went to Charleston to watch Best Virginia play, along with Best Virginia practicing at the team facility in Morgantown.
“The three years I was there we went down to watch them play in Charleston. They practice in our facility so we got a chance to be around those guys a lot. They (Flowers and Jones) are like big brothers, they’ve been through what I’ve been through, we come from the same program, same playstyle, so they’re just like big brothers to me.”
Johnsons said that one of the players he is really excited to share the floor with for the first time is Tayvon Meyers.
When asked about Pitt creating an alumni team for this tournament and the potential for a backyard brawl in Wheeling, Johnson said that he is excited for that.
“It’s always a lot of hype between West Virginia and Pitt, but we’ve always been the top dog so it’s just going to be a normal game for me again.”
Johnsons was asked about the fanbase and if there was any game in specific that helped them win a game, to which he said the Iowa State game at home this past season. Johnson then talked about the team’s early struggles and how they turned things around by constantly saying “we have to get to the tournament.”
“We just got to the point where we said we gotta get to the tournament, there is no reason to be playing if we’re not gonna get into the tournament. There’s no point in playing in this conference if the end goal isn’t March Madness. So I think we all just bought in and locked in collectively as a unit to get that done.”
Best Virginia will be hosting a regional for the tournament July 25-30 in Wheeling, WV. More information surrounding the tournament and Best Virginia can be found on the TBT’s website.
