Following Bob Huggins’ resignation and retirement on Saturday evening, the attention for the future of West Virginia men’s basketball program turns to who will replace Huggins.
A vacancy for the first time since 2007, Huggins has built West Virginia into a national brand for basketball, as well as built top notch facilities for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
Following Huggins’ departure, Pete Thamel of ESPN reported West Virginia University will be conducting a national search, but that internal candidates will also be considered.
There is a long lineage of former Huggins assistants scattered through collegiate basketball, and there are two likely candidates in Josh Eilert and Ron Everhart already on WVU’s coaching staff.
The tweet from Thamel read, “Sources: West Virginia is expected to conduct a national search for the school’s next coach. Internal candidates will all be considered. One of the job’s attractions is the NIL opportunities that helped lure one of the top transfer classes to Morgantown.”
