Mazzulla’s first season comes to an end in Game 7

Joe Mazzulla attempted to lead a historic comeback after the Boston Celtics were down 3-0 to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. That comeback would come up short though, as the Heat beat the Celtics 103-84 on Monday to advance to the NBA Finals.

Mazzulla was thrown into the fire prior to the beginning of the regular season, and was promoted from interim to full time head coach during the middle of the year. Mazzulla helped lead Boston to a 57-25 record in the regular season which was second-best in the eastern conference.

The Celtics beat the Atlanta Hawks in the first round, before beating the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

Mazzulla made headlines for his straightforward answers along with his perspective on life and the opportunity he had to be in the position he was in. The former Mountaineer will now head to his first offseason as the head coach of the Celtics.

The Celtics went into Monday with the chance to be the first team ever to come back from a 3-0 deficit. Teams down 3-0 in a series were 0-150 all-time in the playoffs, and the Celtics came up just short of ending that.
