West Virginia is hoping Aubrey Burks along with the rest of the secondary takes a step forward following a 2022 season which had included a lot of explosive plays and points given up.
With a lot of returners comes the hope from inside the locker room that things will be different on defense in 2023 and one of the ways that starts with is Aubrey Burks.
Durin his freshman year in 2021, Burks played in six games before sustaining a season-ending injury against TCU. In 2022, Burks started all 12 games at safety. He was WVU’s second leading tackler last year. In total, Burks had 66 tackles to go along with one sack, 4.5 tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble and two pass breakups.
Burks’ success last season has led him to be one of the top returning safeties graded by Pro Football Focus. Burks came in at second-best with a grade of 84.9.
Burks is one of three Big 12 safeties in the top ten by PFF.
