West Virginia shortstop Tevin Tucker has been having a career year thus far in 2023 and that now includes being named Big 12 Player of the Week for his performance this past week.
In the absence of JJ Wetherholt, Tucker took over the leadoff position in WVU’s lineup. Tucker hit .571 with seven runs scored, tallying three multi-hit games, as WVU went 4-0 this week.
“Tucker’s never been the leadoff hitter in the program and he’s been here for nine years,” West Virginia head coach Randy Mazey joked after WVU’s win on Saturday. “He’s never been the leadoff hitter but now he’s a really good one. And when JJ (Wetherholt) comes back in the lineup, [Tucker] is probably still going to be the leadoff hitter. He’s been that good.”
Tucker joins Wetherholt as the only other Mountaineer to be named Big 12 Player of the Week this season.
