PacMan Jones’ presence around the WVU football program being felt by players

In an interview on Tuesday, inside linebackers and special teams coordinator Jeff Koonz was asked about the practices when former Mountaineer Adam PacMan Jones was here and if he spoke with the special teams group at all.

“I didn’t have to say a word to him, he went straight for them.”

Koonz goes on to mention how that is just the guy Jones is and how when he comes here he does a great job of seeking out guys to help.

“We don’t have to say a word to PacMan. When he’s here, he’s invested.”

Koonz talks about how when PacMan is here, people understand how important it is that he is back in Morgantown, how special his time here was, and how badly he wants the Mountaineers to be successful.

Koonz also goes on to mention that Jones will talk with players at practice about things he did and then when the team comes out for practice the next day and they are doing a drill, that player will perform at a high level.

“Not only did he play at a high level in the NFL, but he played here, and he was very adamant about how special it is to wear the old gold and blue and what it means to compete at this place.”

Jones, a former Mountaineer, spent three seasons in Morgantown, mostly as a cornerback and return specialist before declaring for the NFL Draft where he found himself being selected sixth overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. Following a 12-year NFL career, Jones retired in 2018.
