The West Virginia men’s soccer team will make one final push to end the season on a strong note and finish with a .500 record.
They will be taking on Georgia Southern for their final conference opponent of the year.
WVU will enter this matchup with an overall record of 5-6-4 and a 2-1-4 record in conference play.
In their last matchup against Georgia State, they would pick up a 3-2 victory, with three familiar faces propelling the Mountaineers to their second conference win.
Ryan Crooks and Luke McCormick scored two goals, while Marcus Caldeira had a goal and an assist.
WVU has had a six-game stretch of success toward the end of the season. In those six matches, they are undefeated, with three wins and three ties.
After Sunday’s home win against Georgia State, head coach Dan Stratford talked about formation changes he’s made on the field during this past six-game stretch.
“We have just felt like we have come to a point where we needed to freshen things up, we needed to make some changes,” Stratford said.
“I want to keep teams guessing, I want to go out there and for teams to not be quite sure what they’ve scouted.”
Georgia Southern will be entering this matchup dead last in the Sun Belt Conference with a record of 0-6 and an overall record of 1-12-1.
The Eagles have struggled to find the back of the net all season, as they are not even averaging a goal per game.
On the defensive side of the ball, they seem like they can not stop their opponents and are allowing them to score three goals a game and 14 shots per game.
This match will be held in Statesboro, Georgia, on Friday at 7:00 pm and can be viewed on ESPN +.
