This weekend, West Virginia will welcome No. 7 TCU into town for their homecoming game. The Mountaineers are coming off a 48-10 loss to Texas Tech, while TCU remains undefeated and atop the Big 12.
Head Coach: Sonny Dykes
Dykes in his first season at the helm of TCU. This is Dykes fourth head coaching stop, previously being at Louisiana Tech, California, and most recently SMU from 2018-2021. Dykes holds a 78-63 all-time record as a head coach.
Record: 7-0, 4-0 Big 12
TCU has played four ranked opponents and has won each of those games. The Horned Frogs most recently beat No. 17 Kansas State at home, but have road wins against No. 19 Kansas, SMU, and Colorado. TCU beat No. 8 Oklahoma State in double-overtime, and also beat No. 18 Oklahoma 55-24.
Offense: Everything for TCU’s offense revolves around Max Duggan. Duggan is a dual-threat quarterback, who is in his fourth year at TCU. Duggan has passed for 1,871 yards, 18 touchdowns and only one interception on the year. Duggan has also ran the ball 58 times for 274 yards and four touchdowns. Duggan’s main target has been Quentin Johnston who has caught 38 passes for 574 yards and three touchdowns. In his last three games, Johnston has 26 receptions for 460 yards.
Defense: TCU ranks fifth in the Big 12 in scoring defense, and has forced eight interceptions on the year, which is second-best in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs have forced nine fumbles on the year, but have only recovered two of them. TCU’s Johnny Hodges and Mark Perry each have 40.0 tackles on the season.
Last Meeting: This time last year, West Virginia was 2-4 coming off their bye week as they headed to Fort Worth. The Mountaineers won 29-17.
