The commits of WVU football’s class of 2023 are nearing the end of their high school seasons. With just a few weeks left of their senior year, let’s take a look at how the commits have performed so far in high school ball.
Jahiem White
When looking at West Virginia’s class of 2023, running back Jahiem White may have had the breakout performance over last weekend’s games. White scored six rushing touchdowns for 417 yards in York High’s win over Dallastown, totaling 28 carries for an average of 15 yards per carry. White broke his previous single-game rushing mark of 415 yards, set during his junior season. So far this year, White has scored 21 total touchdowns in six games, passing the 1000-yard mark for his senior season.
Rodney Gallagher
Rodney Gallagher’s high school team is 4-2 on its season, led by Gallagher who initially started at receiver but became the team’s quarterback. Although committing to WVU as a receiver, the Laurel Highlands athlete is a dual threat in his high school games. Last week, he led his team to a historic win, beating Thomas Jefferson High School for the first time in school history. Gallagher threw two touchdown passes in the victory, and on the season, Gallagher has accounted for 15 touchdowns – eight passing, four receiving, two rushing and one on a fumble return. It is clear that the 2023 graduate is versatile and could be a major threat to opposing Big 12 defenses when he arrives in Morgantown.
Ben Cutter
North Carolina native Ben Cutter has put up impressive numbers on defense for his team, averaging double-digit tackles per game. Cutter led his team to a 63-3 victory on Friday night, continuing its undefeated season. Cutter is a dominant force on defense, averaging 10.9 tackles per game. On Friday, Cutter added to his success with 15 tackles on the night. He also returned an interception for a touchdown and contributed 53 yards on offense.
Noah Braham
Morgantown native Noah Braham suffered an ankle injury in week one of his senior season. As the star of University High’s football team, Braham’s injury was a huge loss; although he was expected to be out for the majority of the season, Braham returned after three weeks and is back to being a dominant tight end. Braham scored two touchdowns in last weekend’s game, leading his team to a 49-7 victory.
James Heard
Linebacker James Heard finally made his debut for Camden High School over the weekend, as he had to sit out the first month of the season due to transfer rules. Heard got to work right away, helping his team get the win, totaling four tackles and two sacks.
