HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Sept.24, 2022)– Both teams’ defense stole the show in the first half. WVU and Marshall would bring the ball up and down the field multiple times without finding the back of the net.
The Mountaineers would show that they could stick with a #4 Marshall team that has only allowed their opponents to a total of five goals and 17 shots on goal so far this year.
In the first half, WVU only allowed Marshall to three shots and none on goal. While Marshall also allowed the Mountaineers to three shots but would allow a shot on goal.
Despite the slow start on the offensive end for both teams, the first half showed plenty of toughness and rough play from both sides. WVU and Marshall would have a combined nine fouls in the first half and one yellow card called on Dyon Dromers in the 23rd minute.
More physical play would start off in the second half. Within the first 21 minutes, both teams would add six more fouls, and Marshall’s Vinicius Fernandes would receive a yellow card in the 63rd minute of the match. Later on, in the 77th minute, Marshall would tally on another yellow card, and it would be against Gabriel Alves.
However, in the 85th minute, Marhalls’s Milo Yosef would find the back of the net to break the draw and give The Herd a late 1-0 lead.
Both teams would finish the match with nine shots each. WVU would allow Marshall to only two shots on goal, while Marshall would allow three. Both teams would end the match with a total of 20 fouls and four yellow cards.
Marshall will improve to 5-1-1 on the season, while WVU will continue their struggles and fall to 2-5-1.
