Davis Sills V, WR, New York Giants
In a surprising move, the New York Giants benched their star wide receiver Kenny Golladay Sunday, who received just two snaps the entire game. The beneficiary of this move, David Sills V, now moves into a starting role for the Giants. The West Virginia product took advantage of his opportunity, catching three passes for 37 yards, including a career-long 24-yard reception.
Although this may not seem noteworthy at first glance, Sills signed his first NFL contract in 2019 and only recorded his first catch in a regular season contest last year. So, seeing that his work ethic and dedication are finally paying off, the wide receiver’s journey is a story many Mountaineers fans can rally behind.
Although Golladay may be re-inserted into the Giants’ starting lineup next week, Sills’ ability to handle himself professionally and make plays when called upon only hurts Golladay’s chances. The Giants host the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football this weekend, and many Mountaineers fans will want to tune in to see if Sills can impress the nation in primetime.
Rasul Douglas, CB, Green Bay Packers
Rasul Douglas has also endured a remarkable journey on his way to earning a starting role in the NFL. While the story went national when Douglas picked off his former team to win a primetime matchup, the cornerback has elevated his play to solidify his starting position. Douglas, an emotional leader for the Packers, energized the team by blowing up a play in the backfield Sunday.
Since bursting onto the scene for the Packers last October, Douglas has only made plays and impressed the entire organization, which rewarded him with a 3-year, $21 million contract this offseason. Douglas and the Packers will have a monumental test this weekend, trying to contain Tom Brady and a highly efficient Buccaneers offense.
