The West Virginia Mountaineers (3-2-3) finished their two match home stand at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium with a scoreless draw against Bucknell (3-3-1). This is the second straight match they have been held scoreless and third time in the past four matches.
The story of the game was once again the Mountaineers inability to finish chances, as they nearly doubled Bucknell in total shots 13-7, and shots on goal, 6-3. Despite this, none were able to find the back of the net, with Bucknell goalkeeper Jenna Hall making six saves.
The Mountaineers once again came out attacking early and got a chance in just the 4th minute when forward Lauren Segalla put a shot in the bottom right corner but it was saved by Hall. That would be one of four shots Segalla would have on the day,
Segalla’s second scoring chance came shortly after in the 11th minute, when she got one of the Mountaineers best chances of the day, just putting the shot off the right post.
At halftime West Virginia out-shot Bucknell 4-3, while both teams had two shots on target.
The second half would be where the Mountaineers started to dominate, out-shooting Bucknell 9-4 in the half.
West Virginia would get an onslaught of chances in the final 10 minutes, with four shots. Three of them would come in the final two minutes when Dilary Heredia-Beltran getting a shot on target that was stopped, then it would be Julianne Vallerand’s opportunity next, missing a chance. Aaliyah Scott would get a follow up chance but sent it over the bar.
Kayza Massey earned her fifth clean sheet of the season in the match, with the defense and Massey herself once again being excellent.
