West Virginia (1-1-1) will be back at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this Sunday to take on Saint Francis (0-3-0). Saint Francis is looking for their first win of the season after losses to Bucknell, La Salle and Robert Morris, where they have scored two goals in three matches.
Coming off of a break-out five goal performance, West Virginia women’s soccer was hoping to storm into University Park and upset No. 14 Penn State. Instead, the Mountaineers were shut out for the second time in three matches this season, losing 2-0, continuing a trend from last season.
The Mountaineers will start with a disadvantage in the match, as star sophomore forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran was issued a red card in the previous match against Penn State and will serve a one match suspension against the Red Flash.
After failing to score in their first match of the season in a 0-0 draw against Indiana, WVU put five past Saint Joseph’s in a convincing 5-1 victory, before being shut out once again against the Nittany Lions. The Mountaineers were held to only nine shots in the match, with their first shot not coming until 21 minutes into the match.
The Mountaineers will have to look for chances from other players against the Red Flash, such as 5th year senior Lauren Segalla, who led WVU in goals last season, but has yet to find the back of the net this season. Forwards Rhea Kijowski and Emily Thompson, who both scored against Saint Joseph’s will also be looked upon to up their goal tallies.
