When class of 2023 commit Josiah Jackson was offered by West Virginia, he was already familiar with
the reputation of the program as he grew up admiring some of WVU’s most successful players.

“I grew up watching Tavon Austin’s highlights and knew about West Virginia,” he said. “When I got the
offer, it was already a big consideration.”

Jackson, a defensive back from Fairfield, Ohio, committed to the Mountaineers in March and had his
official visit this past weekend.

One thing that stuck out to Jackson while on his visit was the true “family feel” of the program; Jackson
said this feeling was a significant reason he wanted to make West Virginia his home for the next four
years.

“Being around the other guys on the team, it gave me the perspective that this team is really like a
family,” said Jackson following his visit.

Jackson is eager to get to work for the Mountaineers and will be enrolling early to get a head start on his
freshman season. The defensive back was highly recruited but felt that he could bring something special
to WVU.

“I’m going to be a winner, a competitor and someone who wants to be great but also wants to make other
people great,” he said. “I’m just going to bring the best me.”

Although Jackson said “winning” is what he is looking forward to the most, he is excited to be a part of
student life and work to earn a degree.

“I’m looking forward to getting a degree and being able to be successful in the future,” he said.
Jackson also expressed his excitement for the class of 2023, confident that the group of incoming
freshmen will be the ones to turn the program around.

Jackson said the distinguishing factor of his class is the mentality it has toward West Virginia: “I believe
every guy that comes here in the class is going to want to be a Mountaineer forever,” he said.

Jackson is confident that the future of WVU football will live up to the hype it has received from
Mountaineer fans throughout this year’s recruiting process.

Jackson had a special message to the fans: “Get ready, because this program is going to be changed
around,” he said. “Changed around big, like we’re going to bring a national championship to West Virginia.”
