Former WVU star point guard Jevon Carter has punched his ticket to the second round of the NBA Playoffs after the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night.
The Bucks beat the Bulls in five games, clinching the series at home in Milwaukee. In game five, Carter saw 21 minutes of playing time and scored six points, grabbed three rebounds, and dished out four assists, while recording a team-high five steals.
During the series, Carter shot 5-for-12 from the field in a limited role, but with the impressive play from Grayson Allen off the bench, it wasn’t Carter’s job to come in and hoist up a load of jump shots.
This is a step in the right direction for Carter, as he is in his second straight season with a strong playoff contender. During 2021, Carter was a member of the Phoenix Suns, who made the NBA Finals before losing to the Bucks. Carter did not see the floor hardly at all during the Suns’ playoff run, so this first playoff series with Milwaukee was an important one for him.
After making quick work of the Bulls, the Bucks set their sights on the Boston Celtics. Carter may have to match up once or twice with Marcus Smart, the NBA’s defensive player of the year. Smart, who played collegiately for Oklahoma State, has found success by bringing pressure defensively night in and night out.
Look for the former WVU standout to keep giving the Bucks good minutes during this playoff run, as he tries to make the NBA Finals for a second year in a row.
