When asked if Saturday’s spring game felt like his last, defensive lineman Dante Stills responded with a simple, “yes”. Stills said he was sad it was his final spring game; he made sure to hug his mom and brother to cherish the moment.
Stills, a sixth-year senior, has been a fan-favorite since his arrival in 2018. When Stills announced he was returning to play for his final year of eligibility, fans were thrilled to see the West Virginia native’s loyalty to the program.
During his 2021 season, Stills made the All-Big 12 First Team as the most productive player on the defensive line. He sits at number three in program history for career TFLs (43.5) and is tied for sixth in sacks (19).
For his final year, Stills says he has the same mindset as a leader on the Mountaineers’ defense.
“It’s the same focus… we just want to be the most dominant group out there,” said Stills. “We have to set the tone of the game.”
With his final season quickly approaching, Stills wants to leave a legacy for future Mountaineers who represent his jersey, #55.
“It’s great for someone to wear 55,” said Stills. “I just think that’s cool. I just think the next generation is going to be on its way.”
