After the announcement came out that the state of West Virginia was going to sue the NCAA after the result of the March Madness seeding last night, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey joined Barstool Sports talk show host, “BigCat” to discuss his next steps with the law suit.
The Republican Party representative says that he is confused about this decision and believes it smells of foul play. “We are trying to get to the bottom of it,” said Morrisey, “it smells really badly”. After hearing the news of West Virginia being snubbed from the tournament Governor Morrisey got to work on the lawsuit immediately and before the selection show was even considering going to Dayton, Ohio for the tournament, “We started talking about this right away,” said Morrisey. Despite his frustrations, the governor does not expect the NCAA’s decision to be reversed by the time the tournament starts, or ever for that matter, as that is something nobody in the history of March Madness has ever seen before. “I’m not here to tell you that this is going to be reversed by the time they are playing in Dayton,” said Morrisey, “But I am telling you that having the focus of you guys and the whole country looking at what seems to be a really dysfunctional and non-transparent system. I think that is the kind of thing we can change long term.”
Long-term transparency is something not just West Virginia University strives for, but other Universities across the country have long strived for the exact same thing. to put it simply, Governor Morrisey wants justice for the hard-working Mountaineers and to ensure a situation like this never happens again. “You want to make sure that West Virginia, the school that will grind and grind and grind you out,” said Morrisey, is going to stand up for itself.
Hopefully, Governor Morrisey and the Mountaineer faithful can receive more insight into the decision that was made and why North Carolina made it in over West Virginia as a result of the lawsuit. However, clarity on the situation will never take away from the fact that the decision made by the committee was a massive mistake and one they will not be able to come back from any time soon.
