West Virginia Men’s Basketball competes in annual Battle 4 Atlantis

The West Virginia Men’s Basketball team traveled over 1,000 miles to play in the annual Battle 4 Atlantis tournament held in the Bahamas during Thanksgiving. This is the tournament’s thirteenth year of play and collects teams from all over the nation.

The 12-game, three-day tournament includes eight teams, University of Arizona, Davidson College, Gonzaga University, Indiana University, University of Louisville, University of Oklahoma, Providence College, and West Virginia University.

Three of the 13 participating teams are ranked including, No. 3 Gonzaga, No. 14 Indiana and No. 24 Arizona. West Virginia will take on No. 3 Gonzaga at 2:30 EST Wednesday afternoon.

“Great opponent, off to a terrific start. They’re a lead at a lot of different things. So you know, very good team, very balanced team, tremendous challenge to slow them down,” said WVU head coach Darian DeVries about opponent Gonzaga.

DeVries shared his goal for his team is to get better and grow as they take on some of the best competition in the nation.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to get a feel for where we are at with things, but the biggest thing is to just come down and compete,” said DeVries.

If the Mountaineers beat Gonzaga they will play on Thanksgiving day at noon against the winner of Game 1, Louisville vs. Indiana. If they fall to Gonzaga, they will still play on Thanksgiving day but at 2:30 and to the loser of Game 1.
