Geno Smith named a finalist for AP Comeback Player of the Year Award

On Wednesday the NFL announced finalists for their annual awards. Former Mountaineer Geno Smith is one of them.

Smith was announced as one of three finalists for the NFL’s AP Comeback Player of the Year Award.

This season, Smith 4.282 yards, and 30 touchdowns. Smith led the league in completion percentage, completing 69.8 percent of his passes. His 30 touchdown passes were good enough for fourth in the NFL.

The other two finalists include Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants and Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers. Both Barkley and McCaffrey are running backs who missed significant time last season due to injury.

Smith has been a backup quarterback for the last six seasons, prior to earning the starting job for the Seattle Seahawks this season.

The winner of the award will be announced on Feb. 9, at the NFL Honors show and it will be televised on NBC.
