West Virginia will look to avoid an 0-2 start to Big 12 play when they host No. 3 Kansas on Saturday. The Jayhawks will look to get out to an undefeated start in Big 12 play, as they have won their first two conference games by a combined five points.
Stopping Dick + Wilson Beyond the Arc
Gradey Dick and Jalen Wilson are the three-point catalysts for the Jayhawks. The pair have combined to make 60 percent of all Kansas three-pointers this year. The Mountaineers will have to be able to chase both off the three-point line West Virginia will have a chance to win. Dick is shooting 48.6 percent from three this season, so stopping him will be a major factor.
Toussaint elevating his game
Joe Toussaint will be the starting point guard for West Virginia tonight and that means he will have to take his role to another level. West Virginia is without their normal starter Kedrian Johnson and Toussaint will have to be a force on both offense and defense for the Mountaineers. Toussaint had only eight points in West Virginia’s past two games and if the Mountaineers want to upset the Jayhawks, he will have to be at his best.
Back to the Basics
This one is simple enough — make free throws, don’t turn the ball over. West Virginia has been poor on offense with handling the basketball and also have not converted when they have had their chances at the free throw line. Against Kansas State and Oklahoma State, the Mountaineers turned the ball over 35 times in two games. West Virginia has to figure out how to be better with the basketball and not give Kansas extra possessions.
