Ross Hodge and his staff have officially landed their first four commits, here’s how the roster is shaping out right now.
The first commitment that Hodge was able to get was Harlan Obioha, a 7-footer transferring from UNC Wilmington. Last season Obioha averaged 9.2 points and six rebounds per game while shooting 63.9% from the field. Obioha spent the first two years of his college career at Niagara.
Shortly after Obioha committed the Mountaineers received another commitment from Brenen Lorient a 6-foot-9 forward from North Texas. Lorient is familiar with Hodge as he played for him last season at North Texas. He was named the AAC Sixth Man of the Year and received First Team All-Conference honors while averaging 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Lorient spent the first two seasons of his career at Florida Atlantic where he played under 110 minutes a game in each of his two seasons.
WVU also received a commitment from high school prospect DeAndre Thomas who is a 6-foot-7 three-star recruit from Texas. Thomas was originally committed to North Texas but after requesting release from NLI he followed Hodge to Morgantown. Thomas is ranked as the No. 62 power forward in his class and the No. 27 overall player in the state of Texas.
Honor Huff committed to the Mountaineers on Saturday from Chattanooga. Huff was a highly touted player in the transfer portal as he averaged 15.2 points while shooting 42.4% from the field and led the nation in made three-pointers and shot an outstanding 41% from beyond the arc. Chattanooga won the NIt tournament and Huff was a big reason why, his back to back 20 point outings in the second and third rounds led the team.
