After winning seven in a row, including a sweep in their series last weekend against Utah, WVU baseball will travel to Houston this weekend for a three-game series of their own.
The Mountaineers, who are 27-4 (7-3 in the Big 12), have looked very good so far this season. They are led by a number of players, including Brodie Kresser and Skylar King, and are one of the best top-to-bottom teams in the conference.
They are still currently dealing with some unknown injuries. Sam White and Logan Sauve, two of the best hitters on the team, were out last game with shoulder injuries. Sauve, a player who could have been drafted but decided to stay with the Mountaineers, is batting .326 at the plate. White is a player who has stepped up for West Virginia this season. He is batting .400 with 23 RBIs on the year.
Houston has struggled to find consistency so far this season. They are currently 19-14 (5-7 in the Big 12) and coming off a tough 3-4 loss to McNeese State. The Cougars have some great pieces in their lineup who can snap at any time in the game. They are led by infielder Aaron Lugo. He is not the leader of their team but has been lighting it up at the plate this season. He is batting .301 with 28 RBIs thus far in his senior campaign.
In their first year in the Big 12, it is going to take some time for the Cougars to get adjusted to the schedule and level of play. They have the talent to compete, and it will be important for the Mountaineers to show up in a big way this weekend.
The first game will be on Friday, with the first pitch at 6:30 p.m. ET. It will be streamed live on ESPN+.
