Clay Ash receives 2025 walk-on award

Clay Ash was announced as the Tommy Nickolich Memorial Award recipient to get the annual Gold-Blue Spring Showcase started in Morgantown on Saturday.

Ash is a sophomore running back from Leesburg, Va. who played in nine games during the 2024-25 season, primarily on special teams.

This award goes to a standout walk-on every year and is in memory of Tommy Nickolich, who played for West Virginia from 1979-82 as a walk-on. Nickolich passed away from cancer shortly after his time with the Mountaineers in 1983.

The award does not guarantee a scholarship, but past recipients typically make the final roster.
