After touching down in Morgantown for the first time on Tuesday, Ross Hodge attended the West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh baseball game last night. It was his first time attending a backyard brawl and one he will never forget.
Once Hodge arrived, he was mobbed by West Virginia fans. He saw firsthand the support this state has for its University, and that he is welcomed with open arms. 4,629 fans attended the Backyard Brawl, making it the most attended game in Kendrick Family Ballpark since it was built in 2015.
After a rough year of sports for West Virginia fans, the baseball team has added some much-needed excitement to the end of the sports calendar. The Mountaineers are currently 24-4, and looking like they can make another run deep into the postseason. This season could end up being a record-setting year for West Virginia baseball on and off the field.
Hodge hopes to follow in WVU baseball’s footsteps next season as he completely rebuilds the basketball roster. He was able to see the support Mountaineer fans have for winning teams and now knows the potential for the basketball program in the future.
