Edward Vesterinen’s senior campaign was cut short last season due to an injury in the team’s week two game against Albany.
Eddie Vesterinen is a 6-foot-3 285-pound defensive lineman from Helsinki, Finland. He is back with the Mountaineers for his fifth season of college football in 2025.
Vesterinen was gearing up to play a pivotal role for the Mountaineers last season until he suffered a season-ending knee injury that sidelined him for his entire senior year. He was granted a medical redshirt and another year of eligibility and he will re-join the Mountaineers in 2025.
Eddie has been a key part of the defensive line for the past few years, playing since his freshman year in 2021. 2023 was the best season of his career when he started all 13 games recording 10 solo tackles and 28 total and three sacks. He also had a great performance in the team win over UNC in Duke’s Mayo Bowl, putting up six tackles, a sack, and 1.5 tackles for loss.
In a press conference a few weeks ago, Rich Rodriguez gave an update on Vesterinen and where he’s currently at, stating that he is back with the team but was limited at the start of the spring practices.
“Eddie’s (Vesterinen) playing, he’s been a little limited, but he’s the one guy who has the most experience probably,” Rodriguez said.
If fully healthy, Vesterinen could be in for a big season in 2025 and as a fifth-year senior, he will also be called upon to be a leader in the defensive line room as the player with the most experience.
