Preston Fox has rejoined the Mountaineers after announcing his intention to retire from football following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Morgantown native Preston Fox announced on Jan. 6th that he was planning on ending his football career after being with the team since 2020. Fox is officially back with the team and is preparing to rejoin the team and continue to practice.
“He got his second practice in; he’ll be ready to go full pads Wednesday,” Rodriguez said.
In Monday’s media session, head coach Rich Rodriguez said that Fox had reached out to him about coming back for his senior season, and the coaching staff happily granted him the opportunity to do that.
“I got a call that he might want to come back. I knew about him a little bit. I thought he ran out of eligibility; I didn’t realize he had another year, and then he called me and said he wanted to talk about coming back. I said sure, we met. I said I would love to him, he’s a good football player, I think all his teammates loved him, its good to have him, I think he can help all of our receiver positions.” Rodriguez said.
In his time with the Mountaineers, Fox has hauled in 43 passes for 548 yards and three touchdowns over 41 games. He’s also seen action on special teams, returning punts and kicks for a total of 777 return yards. He was also named the Iron Mountaineer for 2024, an award given out every year to the most outstanding performers in the team’s strength and conditioning program.
