Running backs coach, Chad Scott parted ways with the Mountaineers after four seasons to fill the same position at Texas. Rich Rodriguez shared that it is normal in college football for coaches to move around and it is something they are going to have to deal with as the season approaches.
Scott has worked for the Mountaineers since 2019 serving as a co-offensive coordinator, running backs coach, run game coordinator and offensive coordinator. In 2024, he led the WVU rushing offense to a No. 9 ranking among Power Four schools.
“I’ve got to accept that’s part of our deal now, coaches moving,” Rodriguez said. “If all of these guys aspire to be pro guys, they’re probably going to change position coaches every one year or two.”
With Scott leaving, some speculated running back Jahiem White would find a new home too. Rodriguez shared that while players often get attached to their position coaches, the sophomore has the potential for a great season with the Mountaineers.
“Jahiem is a veteran guy, a really good player,” Rodriguez said. “I am excited about what he can do. I think he can have a great season.”
With spring ball in full swing, and a new era for WVU football approaching quickly, Rodriguez and his staff are on the hunt for someone to fill the shoes of Scott.
