Coach Kellogg discusses what the Mountaineers need to end the season strong

WVU women’s basketball is heading into their biggest game of the year on Saturday. They will be playing No. 10 TCU for not only the biggest victory of the season, but for a chance to become a top 10 team in the country.

The Mountaineers have just come off a massive win, defeating No. 12 Kansas State by a score of 70-57. Head coach Mark Kellogg is keeping his team focused one game at a time.

“All year you set yourself up to play meaningful games in late February, early March. I think we are in that situation (with) great opportunities in front of us,” Kellogg said. “They know the magnitude of each game. Now they may not study it or look at bracketology, but it’s still the next game regardless. We have to stay the course,” he added when asked about his players.

WVU is currently one game back in the Big 12, and a victory could give them a chance with a few games remaining to win the conference. They will need to beat a TCU team that checks off every box, with talent from top to bottom.

“They are just complete. They have elite guard play. They shoot it. They share it. High assists and high percentages all over. They are a very efficient offensive basketball team,” Kellogg said.

The Horned Frogs are led by senior Sedona Prince who averages 17.8 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. They also have big names like Hailey Van Lith and Madison Conner who have both had great years thus far.

The Mountaineers have struggled against ranked opponents and on the road this season. The Mountaineers are 2-2 against ranked foes while averaging 65.5 points per game, and all five of the Mountaineers losses have been away from the Coliseum.

WVU will face the Horned Frogs on Saturday at noon ET. The game will be available on ESPN2.
