WVU interim head coach Chad Scott took accountability for the team’s 42-37 loss to No.25 Memphis in the Scooters Coffee Frisco Bowl.

West Virginia lost to No. 25 Memphis by a score of 42-37 in the Frisco Bowl, WVU started the game slow going down 17-0 in the first half. They were able to answer back before halftime, cutting the deficit to 28-17.

In the second half, it seemed that both offenses were able to move down the field and score almost at will every time. WVU had one of their best offensive performances of the year, led by quarterback Garrett Greene, who had his first 300-yard passing game of the season with two touchdowns. He also threw a costly interception to end the game.

“If I could go back, I’d be more aggressive coming out to shoot my shot early. That’s what we ended up doing right before half, so he (Garrett Greene) had nothing to do with the outcome of this game. I’ll take accountability for that; we had an opportunity early on when the defense got a few stops to shoot our shot; I was too conservative early on,” Scott said.

Scott led the team through a couple of weeks of practice prior to the game after the firing of Neal Brown on Dec. 1st.

“These guys had every reason for them to quit and fold and turn it in, and the guy shave refused to do that. They’ve done everything I asked, and they have gone over beyond 100% at workouts and practices. The energy and intensity of the practices have been great,” Scott said post-game.

With the season over now, the Mountaineers will hand the program off to new head coach Rich Rodriguez to change the course of the program and bring back a tough WVU culture.
