The search for a new head coach to lead the Mountaineers continues.
Conference championships wrapped up on Saturday, and WVU could very well be interested in some of the coaches who participated over the weekend. While these are not official candidates, they have been floating around the conversation.
Former UNLV head coach Barry Odom was originally on this list until it was announced that he was hired by Purdue.
Rich Rodriguez
A lot has been said about Rodriguez as a candidate in the last few weeks, and even more reports have come out in the past few days. Despite all the noise, Rodriguez led Jacksonville State to a dominating 52-12 win over Western Kentucky in the Conference USA Championship. Jacksonville State took control in the first half and really never looked back. Rodriguez’s offense rushed for 386 yards in the victory. Jax State still has a bowl game left to play.
Jon Sumrall
Jon Sumrall and the Tulane Green Wave suffered a somewhat unexpected 35-14 beatdown against No. 24 Army in the American Athletic Championship. Tulane had a solid passing attack and run game, but not good enough to keep up with Army’s rushing attack. Army threw the ball just two times, both completions for a total of 17 yards while they rushed 55 times for 338 yards and five touchdowns. The Green Wave still has a bowl game left to play.
Andy Kotelnicki
Kotelnicki is No. 3 Penn State’s offensive coordinator. The Nittany Lions lost to No. 1 Oregon 45-37 in the Big Ten Championship. PSU had 523 yards of total offense, 226 passing and 297 rushing. They were seven of 13 on third down and two of two on fourth down. Penn State is highly expected to make the college football playoff.
