WVU Football starting Quarterback took some time on Monday afternoon to address the media following the Mountaineers’ victory over UCF. The win was WVU’s sixth of the season, granting them bowl eligibility and a chance for the team to get to play one more game.
Garrett Greene was noticed by fans and media after his final home game on Saturday night, taking a lap around the stadium to greet as many fans as possible while Country Roads echoed through Milan Puskar one last time in 2024. The quarterback was asked about taking the lap around the field and if it was something he planned to do going into the game.
“That’s something I usually try to do after every home win. Usually the guys try to start like right in front of the student section, but you know I try to just see all the fans after the game so that’s something that I’ve really been doing for the last three or four years.”
In his final game in Milan Puskar Stadium, Greene finished with 118 yards passing, completing 13 of his 21 pass attempts while throwing one touchdown and no interception. He also ran 72 yards on 18 carries.
Those stats were good enough to score 31 points for WVU and secure the victory over the Knights in the final game of the season to be played in Morgantown. For all the seniors, it was their final chance to sing along to Country Roads with the Mountaineer fans who stuck around in the final game.
Greene was asked on Monday afternoon if that final time meant more to him than the others.
“Yeah definitely. I said it Saturday night but, it’s the best tradition in all of sports I think. That song is so special to this place in the state so hearing it one last time on the field was something I’ll never forget.”
WVU will play in their final regular season game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 30 with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. ET. The game can be viewed on FS1.
